Since 2012, IDEAS has partnered with the Biodiversity and Elephant Conservation Trust (BECT) in an annual School Book Donation Project to support the education of children whose parent(s) have been killed by wild elephants. Covering the (often unaffordable) costs of books and other supplies, enables the children of victims of the human-elephant conflict to continue attending school. IDEAS is pleased to have collaborated with BECT in this worthy endeavour, assisting orphaned children to get through their basic education.
Initially, BECT identified 74 families where one parent had been killed by a wild elephant. The total number of beneficiaries from this project is around 370 children.
